Nambooze beats Bakaluba again is very revealing. Religious leaders who engage in partisan politics, can be scandalous. The High Court and the Court of Appeal agreed that the Rev Bakaluba rigged the elections to represent Mukono North.
That is a terrible embarrassment to the Church of Uganda. A priest should remain a steadfast counsellor of victims of corruption, torture, rigging, and other forms of injustice. They should not be aggravators of people’s misery. A priest should persistently call on errant politicians to amend their ways to serve God’s people better. Who will call the Rev Bakaluba Mukasa to order, if he is the one promoting bribery and sabotage of the common man’s interests? By promoting people’s rights and welfare, irrespective of their political affiliation, a priest is already serving his people. Priests who jump out of the pulpit to participate in partisan politics are driven by greed. A priest who behaves like Bakaluba demonstrates that he was never worthy of a priestly office and should not have been ordained. This vindicates the Catholic Church’s recent suspension of Fr Lokoda. Uganda’s politics is largely filthy and a priest who relishes the spoils of political folly will embarrass, not merely other church leaders, but all the faithful believers.
